Two large slabs of Kaibab limestone beckon to their neighbors across the rushing waters of the Paria Riffle. There was light rain falling as I took this time exposure, which helped soften the image. Technically smaller than a rapid, a riffle is nonetheless a respectable disturbance in the river’s flow. Like rapids, they typically form from debris which is deposited by a side stream entering the main channel. The Paria Riffle is exceptional because of the turquoise-colored water entering the Colorado from the Paria River. - Rick Ferens, 2005. Negative # 70_4
